Sandalwood Plantation Yields High Benefits – Suggests Mahendra Ghagare

The founder of Harit Parivar (Pune) Shri Mahendra Ghagare, who was invited to share his experiences with the farmers, had spent hours together discussing various issues related to the modern/beneficial farming trends, particularly while facing continuous shortfall of rain.  The KVK-sagroli has arranged the event at Manik Prabhu Math (Sagroli) on 23rd of May.

Shri. Ghagare, strongly advocated the practices of alternate commercial crops along with the conventional crops.  He said, plantation of sandalwood is so beneficial especially when the  farmers had to pass through unpredictable and drought condition of weather for years together.
Going by the statistics, at the end of  16-18 years, one acre of sandal wood plantation yields approximately 2 crore rupees of absolute  profit.  Moreover, after the 4th year of plantation, the farmer can continuously practices intercrops to meet the expenditure on the maintenance of the plantation and keep the agricultural land engaged.

The other benefits include, as the chairman, SSM, Shri Pramod Deshmukh quoted, the saplings will be provided free of cost by the KVK Sagroli.  Further, It was also suggested to take up this task as group farming so as to share responsibilities of maintenance, in turns.

Training In Operating Bullock-Driven Agricultural Implements

KVK-Sagroli, in association with the Vasantrao Naik Marathawada Agricultural University is likely to impart training in operating various agricultural tools driven by bullocks.
In the recent times due to growing tendency of the people to divide into nuclear families, the number of farmers with smaller pieces of agricultural land increased.  Their economic constraints do not allow them use tractors and other machines for farm practices.  In this light, the agricultural Universities have developed many types of bullock-driven implements for various kinds of farm practices, that are affordable by the marginal farmers.
Lately, during their visit to Sagroli, a delegation from the Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Agri University has chosen KVK, Sagroli as a centre for the demonstration and training the farmers.
The Director, KVK, Sagroli is likely to announce the schedule for the demo-cum-training within a few days.

Adampur Irrigation Canal To Regain Life

On its tireless purist to rejuvenate the defunct natural resources, the SSM has crossed yet another mile stone, on 11of May 2016.  A 7 km canal which passes by the villages Kerur, Adampur and Thadi Savli had lost its identity owing to decades of negligence and irresponsible attitude of the irrigation department.  Soil, silt and weeds filled all through the flow way and when it rained, the water would spread across the fields on its either sides, drowning the crops at their peak stage.  Several representations of the suffering farmers  proved futile as the concerned department officials had thrown a deaf ear.
SSM took initiative and mobilized all the concerned public representatives of the constituency, officials and even the state level authorities to respond for the cause. On being convinced with the facts, the Dist collector responded in favor.  As a result, the work commenced on 11th May 2016 in the auspices of Hon’ble MLA, Subhash Sabane, the District Collector, Suresh Kakani and many other public representatives.  The rejuvenation  work includes widening and deepening of the canal  all through the 7 KMs of length and is expected to house about 32 crore litres of water during this monsoon.
